The 2023 edition of the ASME Code has been published and will become mandatory for all orders placed on or after January 1st of 2024. Some of the major changes in the new edition are as follows:
Section UHX of Division 1 has been mostly deleted, and users are now directed to section 4.18 of Division 2 for exchanger and tubesheet design requirements. The intent of this change is not to change any requirements but is part of a larger project to avoid duplication of information between Divisions 1 and 2. Appendix 26 for expansion joint design was also moved to Division 2 in a similar way.
Another significant change was to move the tube-to-tubesheet weld joint requirements of Non-mandatory Appendix A into section UW-20. Although the requirements haven’t changed, they are now mandatory.
Other code changes include modifications to impact testing requirements in UG-84, clarifications to subcontracted engineering in Appendix 47, and many other smaller updates.
