The American Petroleum Institute’s API-650 Standard is the most commonly used standard for design and construction of flat-bottom, atmospheric pressure storage tanks. The standard covers sizes ranging from small, shop-built tanks, all the way up to very large, field-erected tanks. All aspects of tank designs are covered in the standard. Design methods include anchor chairs with wind and seismic considerations, and internal pressure designs up to 2.5 psi. Many different roof types are covered, including domed, conical, or floating roofs. Inspection and testing of new tanks is detailed in the standard as well. Contact Ward’s sales team if you have any questions about API storage tanks.
