The 2021 edition of the code is now mandatory for all new orders as of January 1, 2022. Many updates and changes were made in this edition of the code. One of the most important changes is the brand new mandatory Appendix 47, Requirements for Pressure Vessel Designers. This section establishes requirements for engineering competency for designers of pressure equipment. All manufacturers must now ensure that any designers and engineers in ‘responsible charge’ of design work are appropriately qualified for the level of design activities required. More complex designs such as finite element analyses or fatigue assessments require higher levels of training and experience. Manufacturers must also track ongoing engineering experience, similar to the welder continuity logs currently required for Section IX welders. Ward’s in-house estimating and engineering staff has well over 100 years of collective design experience and a registered Professional Engineer, so we can handle your most complex design requirements.
