API 650 Field?Erected Tank Success in Eastern North Carolina
Ward’s Field Service Group recently completed the demolition and replacement of an API 650 field?erected storage tank at an operating facility in Wilmington, North Carolina—delivering a new asset built safely, efficiently, and ready for long?term service.
The scope included the controlled demolition of the existing tank down to the foundation, coordination alongside ongoing site activities, and the complete supply and construction of a new tank from the ground up. All work was performed in the middle of an active operating unit, immediately adjacent to other critical equipment that the customer needed to remain online throughout the project. Maintaining operations while executing major field construction required disciplined planning, experienced supervision, and constant communication—hallmarks of how we work in the field.
In addition to standard API 650 requirements, this tank was engineered for internal pressure above typical API design limits. That design work was handled in?house, allowing tight integration between engineering and field execution and giving the customer confidence that the finished product met both operational and performance expectations.
As with any complex field project, not every detail went perfectly—and this job was no different. What matters is how challenges are handled. By working collaboratively with the client as conditions evolved, Ward’s Field Service Group kept the project moving forward, protected the schedule, and avoided unnecessary cost escalation. The tank was completed on time and on budget, reinforcing the value of an experienced field partner.
This project is a strong example of The Ward Way™ in action: technical expertise, field?proven execution, and a relentless focus on delivering an unparalleled customer experience. That approach doesn’t stop at turnover—discussions are already underway regarding additional tank work and repairs at this site.
If you’re evaluating a new field?erected storage tank or planning capital improvements at an operating facility, Ward’s Field Service Group is ready to help—bringing experience, accountability, and results to every job.
